A strong identity and a renowned seaside resort, Le Barcarès has everything to seduce. Surrounded by a pond and the sea, this strip of land was abandoned until the 17th century. It was then that a fishing village settled there, and a few decades later, Le Barcarès boasted a major fishing port and even shipyards where the famous Catalan barge was built. In the 1960s, real estate developers took over the coastline and transformed Barcarès into a renowned seaside resort, with the Lydia, beached on its beaches, as its symbol. This ocean liner, now converted into a museum, nightclub, and restaurant, is the fourth oldest ocean liner in existence in the world. The neighborhoods always have a particular character, and you'll love immersing yourself in the atmosphere of each one. From the old village to the Grande Plage, from the Lido to the Port, the atmospheres change, giving Barcarès a unique cachet.
