Located just a few kilometers from the touristy city of La Rochelle, in the heart of Charente-Maritime, Saint-Xandre has developed around its agricultural activity. It is located not far from Villedoux, Dompierre-sur-Mer, and Sainte-Soulle.
According to local tradition, the commune of Saint-Xandre, named after Saint Candide (a contraction of Saint Candide Sanctus Scandidus), was founded by farmers, even before the city of La Rochelle. Today, it is one of the communes with the largest number of farms in the region.
